It might be coming up for 30 years since Elvis died but it seems his classic song Suspicious Minds has hit a nerve with many employees, according to Croner. When asked what Elvis hit best described their workplace 24 per cent opted for Suspicious Minds, indicting they felt ‘caught in a trap’ at work. Respondents felt their workplace was dominated by office politics and unsupportive colleagues, many of whom were capable of stabbing them in the back to advance their own careers. Many felt more positively about their bosses – 13 per cent of employees were lucky enough to have a manager who recognized people’s skills and helped them move through their career. A worrying 11 per cent of those surveyed opted for the 1970 chart topper The Wonder of You to describe the boss – somebody who favoured some colleagues over others.
