The good news is that workers are experiencing fewer injuries at work but the bad news is depression is on the rise. The Compendium of Workers’ Compensation Statistics Australia 2005-2006 found that while the overall number of claims made has fallen in the last ten years, we’re making more claims relating to mental disorders, cancer and respiratory diseases. The most common claims were related to manual handling or body stress, involving lifting and carrying while the second largest number of claims was for “falls on the same level”. You’ve been warned.
