A New Year and a rise in the cost of domestic air travel is in sight, as Virgin Blue raises the surcharges on it airfares. It will be the first time in more than two years that the low cost carrier has made such a move when the surcharge will shift from $19 to $24 per sector from February 1. Virgin Blue offshoots Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue will also raise their surcharges by $10, taking them to $45. The rise has been blamed on the continued rise of the cost of jet fuel.
