If you’ve got a job interview lined up then you’d do well to gen up on what could be classed as discriminatory in the interview – as it seems too few companies are aware of this themselves. A survey by Kelly Services revealed that 77 per cent of participants failed to recognise two examples of discrimination from a list of five possible interview topics. The five topics given in the survey were: the types of co-workers they like best and why; how the job fit in with their overall career plan; where they were born; the number of days missed during the last year and the reasons; and whether or not they were married. The two highlighted as being discriminatory were where they were born, and whether they were married or not. The latest finding further supports an earlier survey from the company that found 48 per cent of respondents couldn’t accurately recognise discriminatory language in job ads.
