Surprising new research reveals that your walk to work could take its toll on your health – unless you speed it up that is. The medical research institute Inserm, based in Paris, found that amongst older people those who walked slowly are nearly three times more likely to die of heart disease and related causes, in comparison to their speedier counterparts. The results found that the increase in death from heart disease had no correlation to gender, age or how physically active participants were. We all know the importance of maintaining health and fitness as we get older, but now there’s an even better reason why your morning commute could contribute to your wellbeing. It’s time to dust off those training shoes and stop making excuses for why you arrive in the office late – speed up and it won’t just be your boss thanking you.
