Modern technology makes doing business while on the move a breeze - smart phones mean you can collect your emails, access important work documents or surf the internet without being tied down to your desk. So unsurprisingly many bosses would cite their smart phone as being an essential business tool. But if you have a boss or colleagues who regularly travel to the Middle East on business they’ll no longer be able to use all of their Blackberry services while in the region.
Following security concerns the wireless internet device has been banned from use in Saudi Arabia and later on in the year the United Arab Emirates will follow suit. The ban, which will see BlackBerry email, web browsing, instant messaging and social networking all suspended, is due to the fact that users’ email and web history remains confidential.
Each year Australia’s export trade to Saudi Arabia is worth around $2.5billion. The Australian government has confirmed that it is not looking to place a restriction on the BlackBerry’s services when used in Australia. However, Australian customers who travel to the Middle East are likely to be affected.
