If you are particularly prized in the office for your knowledge of a particular subject area you could be feeling the strain in the workplace. Research from Panviva and Delphi Group has revealed that knowledge workers are having to pick up the pieces of a reduced workforce and with many companies not considering replacing staff member culled last year, the pressure is piling up.

Over half of knowledge workers (53%) felt that they were doing the work of three or more people, while 15 per cent believed they were having to do the work of what would previously be that of five or more staff members. The knock on effect is the decreased quality of work being produced, high levels of stress and poor sustainability of performance. The figures speak for themselves - around 60 per cent of office staff have a minimum of six separate windows open on their computer at any one moment in time, while 39 per cent of workers say they spend a quarter of their time in the office searching for information they need to complete the tasks demanded of them.
