Being under 5ft8in means you could be taking a hit in your pay packet, according to the latest research.
A study, from Long Tall Sally in the UK, has revealed that women who are 5ft8in or taller are more than twice as likely to earn up to £5,000 more than their shorter counterparts. When looking into the reasons why this could be it’s telling that around 20 per cent of taller females viewed their height as a sign of “empowerment and authority”, compared with only five per cent of those women who are 5ft7in or shorter. Taller women are in a position which means they look down when speaking to shorter colleagues which can give the illusion of confidence and authority - this may then become a self-fulfilling prophecy, with taller women feeling more confident and so being more successful in the workforce.
