In the last 18 months or so business travellers have had many a great deal to take advantage of – while airlines fight to gain the lion’s share of passengers. But now the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines is warning that air fares are set to rise across the Asia Pacific region. Thanks to the many promotional prices and campaigns of recent years air passenger levels has seen a generous increase – premium traffic has recovered strongly in the area, particularly when you compare it to weaker growth in the US and Europe markets. But with capacity growing air lines are looking to drop the special fares on offer, rather than increasing seat numbers or services on offer. Andrew Herdman, Director General of the Association predicts a return to the 5-7 per cent annual growth rate that many airlines reported prior to the economic woes. Of course, promotional fares will still be there for the taking but it just might take PAs a little longer to find a decent deal.
