While recruitment consultants remain the number one resource for job seekers, social networks are slowly creeping their way up in popularity.

According to Morgan McKinley an overwhelming majority (91 per cent) of job hunters say their first port of call is a recruitment consultant when searching for a new role. Five years ago the term ‘social network’ was rarely used but now nearly half of the job seekers questioned (46 per cent) say they’d rely on these networks to keep them aware of upcoming positions. The favoured online social network was LinkedIn with 46 per cent opting for the business-like, professional service. Facebook pulled in nine per cent of job seekers, while the newest of the bunch, Twitter, attracted two per cent of the job seekers. Fifty nine per cent of those surveyed revealed they’d also hope for positive referrals from their friends and family for work. Of course when you’re job hunting you should leave no stone unturned and checking out social networking sites, job boards and industry-specific sites such as ExecutivePA.com.au should go hand in hand with contacting a recruitment consultant to ensure you land a job.
