How far would you go to land the job of your dreams? Perhaps invest in a new wardrobe, spend your free time taking extra curricular courses or perhaps even go under the surgeon’s knife?
Well if you opted for the latter you are certainly not alone – according to a poll by The Heat Group a fifth of Australian women would be prepared to have, or have already had, a cosmetic procedure to enhance their appearance if they thought it could lead to a major promotion in the office. The poll of 500 females also revealed that females feel more pressure than men to look good at work – with 85 per cent agreeing women have it worse when it comes to looking good for work. More worryingly 30 per cent of those questioned confessed they had experienced discrimination personally, based on their looks. Of course, every PA is aware of the need to look presentable when at work but no female should be made to feel discriminated against on the grounds of their appearance. But these figures prove the problem is more common than you may think and it’s driving women straight to the surgeon’s table. Eighteen per cent of females admitted in the poll that they would resort to plastic surgery if they thought it would boost their career opportunities.
