Australian employers offer their staff the highest level of holiday leave in the Asia-Pacific region – but the country fails to make its mark when compared with Western European countries where is ranks somewhere near the bottom.
In Australia employees can expect 20 days of statutory annual leave – the same as in New Zealand and Japan. In Hong Kong, Vietnam, Pakistan and Singapore people were given 14 days leave, while in the Philippines the figure is a mere five days. And if you’re lucky enough to work in Austria you can look forward to 25 days statutory holiday entitlement plus 13 public holidays too.
The data is drawn from Mercer’s Worldwide Benefit and Employment Guidelines and experts at Mercer acknowledge that holiday leave is an important part of a company’s reward strategy – not only does it help to make team members feel valued but it also enables them time away from the office to ensure a healthy work/life balance.
