The first live executive assistant networking and professional development event since restrictions began, took place on Tuesday 8 September in Brisbane and was enthusiastically received by delegates & suppliers, all keen to get back to meeting people face-to-face again.

The day took place at the Emporium Hotel South Bank and the organisers, venue and everyone who took part, showed how to execute a successful business event while conforming to COVID safe requirements.

All social distancing rules were observed, with round tables for ten used in the presentation rooms and 5 people per table, lunch and refreshments served by staff, and the one-to-one meetings naturally lending themselves to distancing requirements. Even the after-event networking drinks, which took place at the hotel’s recently refurbished rooftop bar, was an easy affair with delegates and suppliers seated.

Only one presentation was made remotely and three out of state suppliers virtually met EAs via laptop.

“Running a business event right now—and for the immediate future—requires a little more thought, but the process has actually uncovered some new opportunities for us,” said Executive PA Chairman Russell Peacock.

“I’m sure our EAs went back to their organisations with some new ideas about putting their events together.”

The day was summed up well by comments made by two participants.

“It’s been really good, really well organised, everyone was on time and some great sessions—and yes, we’re hoping to have a Christmas party this year,” said George Meroiti EA to the CEO at Collection House

“It’s been amazing to be able to meet with and speak with clients, after so long,” said Michelle Hanson of Brisbane Airport Hotels Group.

Further Summits are due to take place later this year and Q1 and Q2 2021.
