St James’ Court, London, UK

L
ondon Concierge of the Year 2016 Binoy Nair – head concierge at St James’ Court, A Taj Hotel, London – recommends his favourite dining spots around the city.

M Victoria Street
Exceedingly good steaks from around the world and great wine choices make this the best place for miles around for meat lovers – although they also do raw fish for those looking to avoid meat. The man behind the M is Martin Williams and his signature is evident in both of his properties (the other one is on Threadneedle Street) – swanky, polished and welcoming to all. And there’s nothing like going into the Den for a nightcap after your dinner.

Hai Cenato
This is Jason Atherton’s new venture in Nova building, which offers by far one of the best pizzas I’ve had for a long time. I highly recommend the sharing platters, as well as the pastas. The restaurant has a nice and relaxed feel and the service is excellent.

Aster
This restaurant is also in Nova building and a short walk from our hotel. They specialise in Nordic/French cuisine and it’s a great addition to the local restaurant scene. The executive chef is Helena Puolakka who has worked at Skylon and with Pierre Koffman at his three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris. The menu has an amazing combination of the flavours from two different and distinct cuisines and my favourites are the Greenland prawns and the lamb shoulder. Try the pine ice cream for dessert – you’ll not be disappointed!

Quilon
The star of our local scene has to be Quilon and being the only Michelin star South Indian restaurant in the world makes this a must-stop for all gourmets. It’s one of our top recommendations due the quality of the food, the presentation and the service. I, in all honesty, like everything on the menu and would love to do a marathon-sitting, sampling every dish! However, some of the very best items are mini masala dosa, kothu lamb and the manglorean chicken.

Mango Tree
Ideal for a quick Malaysian lunch or dinner, this is one of the best Thai restaurants in London and also the most popular amongst our guests. They’ve been established for a long time and, a few years back, it was one of the few restaurants we could recommend to guests without a second thought – there’s slightly more competition now. Highlights of the menu for me are the duck spring rolls, the seafood platter, grilled wagyu beef steak served with the signature sauce and the roasted duck on a bed of pak choi.
